Positive Behavior Intervention and Support
PBIS Defined:
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive systemic approach to teaching and managing behavior in schools. The goal of establishing a PBIS system is to enhance the capacity of schools, families, and communities to create and maintain positive school environments so all students can achieve academically and socially. While school-wide PBIS creates consistency across all non-classroom settings, PBIS classroom practices, when implemented with fidelity, provide ongoing academic, social, and behavioral supports within every unique classroom.
PBIS isn’t a curriculum you purchase or something you learn during a one-day professional development training. It is a commitment to a culture of learning that addresses high expectations for student behavior through systems change. When it’s implemented well, students achieve improved academic and social outcomes, schools experience reduced exclusionary discipline practices, and school personnel create a more effective learning environment.
Resiliency Defined:
Resiliency is the ability to bounce back from something difficult.
District Mental Health Clinicians serve many of our schools operating within a Resiliency Framework intended to improve mental health outcomes for students through strengthening innate student resiliency, providing support for students within the school setting, assessing student needs, and connecting students and families to outside resources that fit with identified student needs. After gaining parent or guardian consent, Clinicians will provide services to students to identify an immediate issue and resolve concerns in 4-6 sessions either in individual or group format by focusing on positive core values and increasing resiliency through life skills such as:
ADHD/Self Management
Anger Management
Self-Esteem/Self-Care
Anxiety/Coping Skills
Healthy Relationships
