UNIVERSITY OF NORTH GEORGIA

Cadet scholarships available at UNG!

Do you have students who need assistance with paying for college?  Check out our Cadet scholarships that are available at UNG!

The State of Georgia funds 42 scholarships each year to Georgia students that are interested in joining the Georgia Army National Guard and the University of North Georgia Corps of Cadets.  This means you can still have a full time job after graduating college while serving part time in the Guard!

Recipients of the University of North Georgia Military Scholarship (UNGMS) are even able to make $30,000 - $40,000 over four years as a Cadet.  The scholarship pays for room, meals, tuition, books, uniforms and fees.  The total worth of the UNGMS is over $70,000.  In recent years, just under 60 qualified and completed applications are received annually.

Army ROTC Scholarships are available nationally to Cadets who participate in a Senior Army ROTC program.  This scholarship differs from the UNGMS in what it covers: tuition and fees or room and board, up to $10,000.  It is important to realize that both scholarships require service in the U.S. Army after graduation.

Additionally, Cadet Admissions awards Leadership Scholarships to incoming Cadets based on merit and financial need.  These scholarships range from $500-$3,000 and are funded by alumni donations to help off-set the cost of college for incoming Cadets.  For Georgia residents (not on UNGMS), they are also eligible for the Georgia ROTC and Future Officer Grant ranging from $1,500 to $4,000 a year.

For additional details on these scholarship opportunities for Cadets at UNG.

U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY NOMINATIONS PROCESS

2.  NJROTC/NNDCC instructors are encouraged to assist eligible and interested NJROTC/NNDCC cadets with the application and nomination processes.  Cadets are advised to seek a nomination from EACH of the following nomination sources for which they are eligible.  Questions regarding eligibility may be directed to the Naval Academy at (410) 293-1858

    a. U.S. Senators, Representatives, and Delegates: Each member of Congress can have five constituents attending the Naval Academy at any time.  (Note: The delegate to Congress from Guam may have three at the academy.)   Each Congressional office has its own procedures and deadlines for accepting nomination requests.  Most offices prefer that you contact them in the spring or summer of the year prior to admissions to the Academy.  For specific requirements and deadlines, each student should go to United States House of Representatives <United States House of Representatives> and Senate Goverment <Senate> to find their Members of Congress and then visit their websites.

    b. The President of the U.S.: An unlimited number of presidential nominations are available for children and legally adopted children of career officer and enlisted personnel of the armed forces, active or reserve, including the Coast Guard.  One hundred candidates may be appointed with these nominations each year.  A parent in the reserve must be serving as a member of a reserve component and be credited with at least eight full years of service (a minimum of 2880 points) or must be entitled to retired pay except that he or she is not yet sixty years old.  Otherwise, the parent must currently be on active duty (other than for training) and have served continuously for at least eight years or have been retired with pay or granted retired or retainer pay.  If you have questions regarding your eligibility, please call (410) 293-1858.

    c. The Vice-President of the U.S.: At any one time, five students may attend the academy based on a vice presidential nomination.  Competition for a vice presidential nomination is nationwide, therefore, it is very keen.  U.S. citizens who are living outside the United States and who have not maintained a domicile in the U.S. are encouraged to apply for a vice presidential nomination.  Requests for Vice Presidential nominations must be postmarked between 1 March and 31 October of the year prior to entry and sent directly to the Vice President.

    d. Navy and Marine Corps (Active & Reserve): One hundred seventy appointments are available annually to regular and reserve Navy and Marine Corps enlisted personnel (interested cadets and former cadets might pursue this option after graduation).

    e. Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC, NJROTC, MCJROTC), Honor Naval and Military Schools: All Navy JROTC units are eligible to nominate three candidates each.  NJROTC Distinguished Units with Academic Honors are eligible to nominate three additional candidates.  Again, NJROTC/NNDCC units are not required to submit the orders for the unit as a listing of authorized units has been provided in advance to USNA.  The nomination form is available online at Here  (Note: All candidates must be NJROTC/NNDCC cadets.  Naval Honor Schools are defined in reference (b).  Units designated Naval Honor Schools are also eligible to nominate three cadets each to the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy.  Contact their respective admissions offices for details.

    f. Children of deceased or disabled veterans and children of current prisoners of war or servicemen missing in action: Up to 65 midshipmen may be in attendance at the academy based on nominations as children of military personnel who were killed in action; died from wounds, injuries or disease while on active duty; sustained 100 percent disability from such wounds, injuries or disease, as certified by the Department of Veterans Affairs; or who are currently prisoners of war (POW) or missing in action (MIA). The children of civilians in POW or MIA status also are eligible.  Adopted children are eligible.

    g. Children of Medal of Honor Awardees: Candidates in this special category who are fully qualified for admission are automatically appointed.  There is no limit to the number of midshipmen who may be at the academy with this source of nomination.

3.  Instructors and cadets (juniors and seniors) are advised to pay careful attention to all deadlines (make all submissions as early as possible), mailing addresses, and requirements as provided here..

JCI Senators Foundation of Florida, Inc

Each year, the Florida JCI Senate Foundation grants two $500.00 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities, or vocational schools. These scholarships are based on academic performance. We also grant a $1000.00 based on academic performance and financial need. We also administer a $750.00 scholarship for a graduating Lakeland, Florida high school student using the same criteria. Checks awarded will be made out in the name of the recipient and the educational institution of the recipient’s choice.

Applications must come from high school students who are U.S. Citizens graduating from a Florida accredited high school. This may include state approved home school and state approved GED programs, or Cyber School.

The Foundation is a fully qualified, IRS approved 501 C (3) foundation. Our IRS tax ID number is 59-3091794. All contributions to the Foundation are deductible for federal income and estate tax purposes.

Beginning in September of each year the foundation distributes to schools and board of education throughout Florida the necessary application forms for determination of the recipients of scholarship grants. The two top winners of the JCI Senate scholarship will then be sent to the US JCI Senate Foundation to be judged for an additional $1000.00 scholarship.

A panel of judge’s reviews each application received, and the two top ranked applications are forwarded to the U.S. JCI Senate Foundation. The other two scholarships are also judged by and independent panel of educators who reviews the applications submitted from the state and the winners of the scholarship grants are selected by that panel and the 3 top applications are given to a panel of Florida JCI Senate Foundations trustees. The ultimate winner is then chosen by that panel.

No limit is set on the number of grant applications that can be submitted by students attending any given secondary educational institution. Applications are judged based on student’s residence in Florida rather than the location of the college, university or vocational school the student plant to attend.

The JCI Senators Foundation of Florida, Inc. is proud of all of its award recipients and, with the continued support of the JCI Senators of Florida as well as friends of the program that are interested in helping to fund this program, we look forward to making an even larger number of scholarships available in the future.
