Our Story
The NJROTC program here at Ridgeview High School is a rigorous course that aims to instill citizenship and leadership in its fellow cadets. The program at our school creates a society and even a family. We seek to improve our cadets for the betterment of life and help them in any way possible to prepare them for college, military service, or a career.
The NJROTC program was established by Public Law in 1964 and may be found in Title 10, U.S. Code, Chapter 102. The program is conducted at accredited secondary schools throughout the nation by instructors who are retired Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard officers and enlisted personnel. Ridgeview High School’s NJROTC Unit was started in 2000.
The NJROTC curriculum emphasizes citizenship and leadership development, our maritime heritage, the significance of sea power, and naval topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, navigation, and meteorology. Classroom instruction is augmented throughout the year by community service activities, drill competitions, field meets, flights, visits to naval activities, marksmanship training, and other military training. Uniforms and textbooks are provided at no charge by the Navy.
