Orange Park Elementary’s Amanda Watson has been named Clay County’s Teacher of the Year, recognized for her exceptional dedication to student success and passion for science education.
As a military spouse, Watson’s teaching career has taken her across two states, four schools, and three grade levels. Returning to Clay County, where her teaching journey began, she has found her “forever classroom” at Orange Park Elementary.
Watson’s teaching approach blends data-driven strategies with a focus on fostering creativity, engagement, and personal connections. Her hands-on STEAM lessons inspire students to think critically and express their learning in innovative ways, from designing comic strips to performing science experiments.
Throughout her career, Watson has achieved remarkable milestones. At Green Cove Springs Junior High, she helped increase science scores by 11 points and guided nearly 50 students to success at district, state, and national science fairs. Most recently, her students demonstrated 54% growth in science assessments, surpassing their peers countywide.
“Building a positive, nurturing, and creative environment where all students thrive is central to my teaching philosophy,” Watson said. “The connections I build with my students, both academically and emotionally, are my greatest impact as a teacher.”
Congratulations to Amanda Watson on this well-deserved honor and for her continued commitment to inspiring excellence in Clay County students!
